Food Shopping

B1–B2

Every Saturday morning, my family and I go food shopping. We usually go to the supermarket in our neighbourhood. The supermarket is very big and has many aisles with different kinds of food.

First, we go to the fruit and vegetable section. We buy apples, bananas, carrots, and lettuce.

Next, we go to the meat section. My dad likes chicken, so we buy some chicken breasts.

Then, we go to the bread section. My mom likes whole wheat bread, so we get that too.

After that, we go to the dairy section. We buy milk, cheese, and yogurt.

Finally, we go to the cashier and pay for everything. Sometimes, we also buy a snack, like chips or cookies.

When we get home, we put everything away in the fridge and pantry. Food shopping is not my favourite thing to do, but it's important to have healthy food at home.

Food Shopping – a Dialogue

Tom
Hi, Sarah. What are you looking for?
Sarah
I'm just checking my shopping list. It feels like I always forget something!
Tom
Yeah, it's tough to remember everything we need. Have you tried making a shopping list app on your phone?
Sarah
No, but that is a good idea. Which one do you use?
Tom
I use AnyList. You can share lists with other people and even assign different items to specific stores.
Sarah
That sounds helpful. I'll definitely check it out later today. By the way, do you know where the pasta sauce is?
Tom
Sure, come with me. It should be in aisle five.
Sarah
Great! Oh look, they have my favorite brand of olive oil here. Do you want to try some?
Tom
Sure, why not? We could make some bruschetta tonight.
Sarah
Sounds delicious! We'll also need some bread and tomatoes.
Tom
Got it. Let's keep moving then. Hey, I haven't seen you around in a while. How's work going?
Sarah
Busy as usual. But it's been okay so far. What about you?
Tom
Same here. The marketing team has begun working overtime. It's tiring but exciting.
Sarah
Yeah, I bet. Well, let's hurry up or else all this food shopping will take up our whole day!
Tom
Agreed. Aisle five is right over there.
