Tom Talks to Sue

Tom
Hi Sue, good to see you!
Sue
Hey Tom! How was your day at the hospital?
Tom
Tiring, as usual. But I love it. Helping people feel better is just so rewarding.
Sue
That's true. I also had a long day at school today. Teaching can be challenging, but when you see children progress and learn new things, it's such a great feeling.
Tom
Definitely. And what about you, John? What did you cook up in the restaurant today?
John
Oh, just some signature dishes and a few new recipes. Being creative with food is my favourite part of being a chef.
Mary
Well, I like being creative too, but in a different way. As a police officer, I need to think outside the box to solve problems and catch criminals. Plus, knowing that I'm making the city a safer place is really fulfilling.
Bob
You know, I feel the same way. When I put out a fire or rescue someone from danger, there's no greater feeling than knowing I made a difference.
Tom
It's great how we all have different jobs but share the same goal of making a positive impact on people's lives.
Sue
Yeah, that's why we make such a great team here.

Text 3

Four Opinions

Tom

I don't like to work inside an office all day. I want to take pictures of animals outside instead. So, I quit my job and now I am happy.

John

It's easier when you choose a good job. When I started as a banker, people didn't think I could do it. But I worked hard and now everyone knows I am successful.

Emily

I can't decide if I should pick a job that makes me happy or one that pays well. I like baking, but owning a bakery doesn't make much money. A corporate job pays better.

Sophie

The worst thing is choosing the wrong job. My dad wanted me to be a doctor, but I couldn't stand blood. Accounting was okay, but I am so sorry I did not study what I like.

Role Play Games

1

Job Interviews

Divide the class into pairs, with one student playing the role of a job applicant and the other as the interviewer. Provide a list of job descriptions or allow students to choose their own. They can then conduct mock interviews, practicing asking and answering questions related to the desired position.

2

Career Fair

Create a simulated career fair in the classroom. Assign each student a profession or job role, and ask them to prepare a short presentation about their chosen profession. They can create brochures, posters, or PowerPoint slides to showcase the key aspects of their profession. Allow time for students to visit each other's booths and ask questions.

3

Role-Playing Work Situations

Provide various work scenarios, such as dealing with an angry customer, resolving a conflict with a colleague, or giving a presentation to a group of clients. Assign roles to different students and have them act out the scenes while using appropriate language and professional communication skills.

4

Job Board Game

Create a board game where students navigate through different job-related challenges and scenarios. Each space on the board can represent a different profession, and when a player lands on a space, they have to describe the job, its responsibilities, or answer questions related to that profession.

5

Guess the Profession

Prepare flashcards with images or short descriptions of different professions. Divide the class into teams, and one student from each team has to pick a flashcard without showing it to their teammates. They then have to describe the profession without using the actual job title, and their team members have to guess the profession based on the description given.
