In this lesson, we learn four useful expressions about thinking and helping:

to figure out, to point out, to think over, and to help out.

To figure out means to understand something or solve a problem.

To point out means to show or mention something important.

To think over means to think carefully about something before you decide or answer.

To help out means to help someone in a situation where help is needed.

These expressions are useful in school, at home, and in everyday life when we solve problems, give useful comments, and support other people.

On Friday, the class works on a big puzzle. The teacher puts one puzzle on each table. Anna starts quickly. Leo starts quietly. Ben starts dramatically. “First,” says Ben, “I need to think over the whole situation.” The teacher smiles and says, “Good. But also touch the puzzle.” Ben looks at the pieces for two minutes. Then Anna says, “I want to point out that the blue pieces probably go together.” “Excellent,” says the teacher. Ben takes one blue piece and one yellow piece and tries them together. They do not fit. “Interesting,” says Ben. “The puzzle disagrees with me.” After some time, Leo figures out one corner. Anna figures out the middle. Ben figures out where the picture is upside down. “That is also important,” he says proudly. At the end, the whole team helps out and finishes the puzzle together. The teacher says, “Very good. Teamwork wins again.” Ben smiles and says, “Yes. I help out with atmosphere.”
