3️⃣ English Explanation

In this lesson, we learn four common classroom expressions:

to pick up, to look at, to give back, and to write down.

To pick up means to lift something from a surface or from the floor.

To look at means to direct your eyes to something.

To give back means to return something to another person.

To write down means to write information on paper so you do not forget it.

These expressions are useful because students use them every day in class.

They work well in instructions, stories, dialogues, and simple practice.

They are also easy to act out, which helps students remember them better.

On Wednesday morning, Mia comes to class with three pencils, two pens, one ruler, and one very serious face. She sits down and looks at her desk. Her blue pen is not there. Mia looks at Ben. Ben looks at Mia. Mia looks at Ben’s hand. Ben quickly puts his hand under the desk. “Ben,” says Mia, “please give back my blue pen.” Ben says, “This is not your pen.” Mia says, “Really? Then why is my name on it?” Ben looks at the pen very carefully and says, “Ah. Yes. Small problem.” He gives back the pen and smiles. Then the teacher says, “Children, write down the homework.” Ben looks at Mia and says, “Can I use your pen?” Mia says, “Yes. For ten seconds.” At the end of the lesson, Ben picks up his bag, his book, his ruler, and two pencils from the floor. Then he says, “I think my school things like the floor more than my desk.”
