In this lesson, we learn four very common verb combinations for morning routine:

to wake up, to get up, to put on, and to take off.

To wake up means to stop sleeping.

To get up means to leave your bed and stand up.

These two actions are close, but they are not the same.

To put on means to put clothes on your body.

To take off means to remove clothes, shoes, or a coat.

These expressions are very useful in everyday English because people use them every day at home.

They are easy to show, easy to act, and easy to remember in stories and dialogues.

Every morning, Leo wants to be a strong and active boy. But every morning, his bed wants him to stay. On Tuesday, Leo wakes up at seven. He opens one eye, then the other eye, and says, “Good. I wake up. Job done.” But he does not get up. At seven ten, his mum comes into the room and says, “Leo, get up!” Leo says, “I cannot. My blanket and I are best friends.” At seven twenty, Leo gets up very slowly. He puts on his T-shirt, but then he puts on his school jumper back to front. Then he puts on one black sock and one yellow sock. His mum looks at him and says, “Leo, what is this?” Leo looks down and says, “This is fashion. I think.” In the evening, he comes home, takes off his shoes, and says, “Tomorrow I will wake up, get up, and dress like a normal person.” His mum smiles and says, “We will see.”
