In this lesson, we learn four useful expressions about clothes:

to put on, to take off, to try on, and to pick out.

To put on means to place clothes on your body.

To take off means to remove clothes from your body.

To try on means to put on clothes for a short time to see if they fit or look good.

To pick out means to choose something from different options.

These expressions are very common in daily life, especially at home and in clothes shops.

They are easy to use in simple routines and funny everyday situations.

On Saturday, Mia and her family go to a clothes shop. Mia wants a new jacket. First, she picks out a green jacket. Then she tries it on. “It is nice,” says Mum. “It is too boring,” says Mia. Then Mia picks out a yellow jacket with very big pockets. She tries it on and smiles. “I like this one,” she says. Dad looks at the jacket and laughs. “Why do the pockets look so big?” he asks. Mia puts her hands in one pocket, then in the other pocket. Then she takes out an apple, two pens, a small toy, and one sock. “Now I understand,” says Dad. After that, Leo wants a hat. He picks out a black hat, a blue hat, and a purple hat. He tries on all three hats. Then he puts on all three hats at the same time. Mum says, “Leo, take off two hats, please. You are not a clothes shop.”
